Researchers urge Africa to develop policies on air pollution

NAIROBI, April 16 (Xinhua) Researchers Monday called on African governments to develop and implement home grown policies to help reduce air pollution in the emerging mega-cities.

Air purification tower cuts PM2.5 by 15 pct

XI'AN, April 18 (Xinhua) Testing has shown that 60-meter-tall air purification tower in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, can cut the average PM2.5 density by 15 percent over an area of 10 square kilometers.

Xinjiang's new energy power generation soars in Q1

URUMQI, April 15 (Xinhua) New energy power generation surged in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the first quarter of the year as local authorities sought to improve the energy mix. Wind and solar power generation rose 35 percent and 38 percent year on year to 7.6 billion kwh and 2.3 billion kwh, respectively, according to the State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd.

Further pollution reduction necessary in China: UChicago professor

Michael Greenstone, director of Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, told Xinhua that the measures taken by the Chinese government over the past four years have been extraordinarily successful in reducing air pollution. "I'm unaware of any country achieving such large reductions in pollution in such a short period of time."
