US oil firm ConocoPhillips has sent teams to investigate weather oil which leaked from its platforms in the Bohai bay has reached coastal bathing areas. China's Oceanic Administration reported on the July 19 that oil had reached coastal areas of Hebei and Liaoning provinces. A spokesperson from ConocoPhillips told 21st Century Finance magazine that the company is investigating the claims. ConocoPhillips has used several kilometers of oil fences in an attempt to contain the spill. "If the spill has reached the coast, it shows that ConocoPhillips still hasn't got the spill completely under control" said Ma Jun director of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs, a Chinese NGO. The oil leaks at the Penglai 19-3 oil field in the Bohai bay occurred in June.
